Through inhalation
Inhaling the aromas from essential oils trigger thousands of receptors in the olfactory membrane inside your nose. These odour molecules then travel along the chemosensory pathway, immediately triggering the limbic system, also known as the “emotional brain”. This particular area of the brain connects with other areas of the brain which in turn control bodily functions such as your hormone balance, blood pressure, memory, stress levels, breathing, heart rate and other emotional, behavioural and psychological functions. It is what they call ‘aromatherapy’ which often explains why a certain smell can trigger specific emotions. Amazing trivia!
